Perhaps it wasn’t all about her injury which makes me furious.

No, it is not classified as mental illness, however, it is the result of severe brainwashing through fear and guilt.
I speak from military experience, training and as a former Catholic, religious brainwashing can definitely lead to mental illnesses such as PTSD and psychosis. Fear is powerful. 🫶🏻
