Good conversation, Jordan. Quite a time to be going back to China for a visit. You’ll soon notice how quickly skepticism and distrust have increased as to what America’s new motives are in Emerging Asia.

Watching media owners/ execs jet in to kiss the ring shows that the almighty dollar trumps everything. I wonder how much money & power is enough for these people?

Always interested in talking about Da Nang, Charlie. My GF and I are planning on being there for a few weeks in June during the fireworks festival; I lived in Hội An before the pandemic and love a lot of the sustainability and smart building initiatives in Quang Nam.

Sad state of affairs, JB. I have friends working for NGOs as well as USAID in Southeast Asia and their office doors are locked, no paychecks coming, and emails shut off.

Hi Carl – as an entrepreneur and investor in 50+ startups, I think that there’s a lot of truth to Sam’s point. In the “move fast, break things” world, forgiveness comes easy, and the media creates huge paper value for some of these guys while Elon trolls. All news is good news, as the saying goes.

Would love to hear who will be rebuilding all these homes & businesses with California’s construction industry already staffed with ~41% migrant labor and the president’s quid pro quo on disaster relief looming…
States and Construction Trades Most Reliant on Immigrant Workers, 2023
As reported in a previous post, immigrants make up one in four workers in the construction industry. The share of immigrants is significantly higher (32.5%) among construction tradesmen. In some state...

Yes, they have. Through the 2 captured POWs and their military manuals found on their persons. The Ukrainian military shared proof of this weeks ago.

Enjoying following your thoughts, Mike. Those of us Americans abroad, especially in Emerging Asia, are following the whipsaw of Trump’s actions with bated breath. And Elon WASN’T ELECTED so I don’t know where his mandate came from.

Holy cow. My College of Charleston roommate is from Mullins and I have many good Pee Dee friends. I also lived in South Carolina for 16 great years. I want to hear more about this ASAP. Can you DM me?

Meanwhile those of us Americans with pre-existing health conditions will just cross our fingers and hope the surgical debt doesn’t kill us, so we can get back to our work.
