If you’re going to the American Psychological Association Convention next week, let me know! The APA President gave me two minutes during the presidential opening session to discuss the #LegalPsych perspective.
Small time period, but large audience. I hope to spark some conversations!

Am I the best artist? Nope. But art is a good stress relief and I wanted something for my office.
Called “Predator” bc it’s a shark but also bc it’s painted on whitewashed pages from a law review article I wrote on the ethics of sexually violent predator laws.
I’m definitely a #LegalPsych nerd.

People often ask me why I serve on national psychology boards/committees if I’m not an academic.
Well, professional service isn’t just for academics and it’s a great opportunity to become friends with excellent people like @gcnhall.bsky.social !

2024 was my biggest reading year yet. On planes, trains, and at soccer (no automobiles!), Goodreads says I read 30,000 pages across 82 books this year.
My top book was about the rise of the KKK in 1920s America and how one woman tried to stop them: “A Fever in the Heartland by Timothy Egan.

Great time seeing John Oliver at the Kennedy Center last night!
He gave a much-needed and hilarious US/British history lesson.
Bad photo bc he quickly left after his set and I didn’t want to take out of my phone during his show.

It’s professional dues season and YIKES!
Associations do some great things, but we need to make them more affordable and accessible, especially to people looking for jobs. Lower student/early career dues are just a start.
Which do I join/renew?
AP-LS: You’re stuck with me. We have work to do!

Incredibly honored to receive this year’s Nebraska #LawPsych distinguished alumni award. Thank you to everyone (including the Nebraska Chief Justice) who attended the social events and my lecture on applied legal psych jobs.
Big thank you to @profloriann.bsky.social for planning an amazing event!

Essentialism involves classifying social groups based on perceived “natural”, unchangeable differences and can lead to bias in the criminal legal system.
So, what can we do? See new research from our team (including @anthonyperillo.bsky.social)!

After nine consecutive years of academic conferencing (including two virtual ones in 2021), this non-academic (and his wallet) is taking a break for 2024.
I’ll save my comments in the form of questions for 2025!

This non-athletic late 80s/early 90s kid who always had to shop for clothes in the back “husky boys” section (why was that a thing?!?!) has now assistant coached three consecutive seasons of youth baseball (and not terribly!)

Honored that a chief justice invited me to give the keynote at their state’s federal-state judges’ dinner tonight.
I’ve now had three state chief justices ask me to present my research on how federal & state courts can better cooperate (with a lil’ legal psych thrown in).
Where should I go next?

My official American Psychological Association (APA) Fellow certificate arrived! I am humbled by support from the #PsychLaw community.
APA might not include my JD degree on the certificate but my commitment to the intersection of law and psychological science and practice is stronger than ever.
