The moon is nearly full, moving slowly in the sky, above the roofs and the tree branches. A woman walking ahead of me stops to take a photo. On her phone camera, the moon is big—mouth-openingly bright and round. On mine, it is only a tiny dot, easily mistaken for a street lamp.

Brendan Behan’s mother: “I’d like to see Paris before I die.” Behan’s father, in response: “Not much chance of seeing it afterwards!” 🤣🤣🤣 #irishwit

Browsed Netflix for a good while before deciding what to binge today. It’s a quiet, sleepy day, and I’m feeling a bit tired. So The Crystal Cuckoo it is, the “small town with secrets” genre with eerie folk-horror elements. Might be just the right thing.

No matter how late I get home from a New Year’s Eve gathering with friends, I always wake up in time for the New Year’s Concert in Vienna. With my first coffee of the year in hand, I watch the camera glide across the audience and the orchestra.

Picked up Totally Dublin magazine at the Container Coffee, hot white chocolate in hand, and followed Anthony to the bench outside, in the shadow of the old windmill. We sat wondering at what hour on New Year’s Day Guinness changes the year on its gates. When will the 5 be painted over by a 6.

I love Brendan Behan’s line: “Listen with some more ears!”—meaning you’ve misheard me :-) #amreading his collected short prose, my Christmas present.

On my mind today: people who move through the world with presence. Hands -on, attentive, able to look around and immediately sense what needs doing and who needs support. The ones who steady others in a crisis, bring people together. I wish I am that kind of person.

My mind keeps drifting back to the news of Aldina Jahic’s murder in Mostar. She was a bright, shining star, a young woman who was going places. A terrible, terrible end. n1info.ba/english/news...

Heard a story this morning about a woman whose 1920s Corona typewriter steered a course of her life. Her grandmother taught her to type on that typewriter, and she even brought it to her 1960s job interview to showcase how fast she can type. #LifeStories #Nostalgia

Horrific news today. The randomness of the
attacks is what makes it terrifying.
Mind yourself, my husband often tells me as I leave the house for a walk, or for work. Every time he says that I kind of shrug it off thinking: what could possibly happen to me? I have my answer now: you just never know.

Parisian Lives by Deirdre Bair was one of my Christmas presents, and what a treasure it turned out to be! Bair, the award-winning biographer of Samuel Beckett and Simone de Beauvoir, devoted nearly two decades of her life to crafting these monumental works.

I just finished watching The Walking Dead: Dead City. To my surprise, the new villain is The Croat (played by Željko Ivanek), and his gang is called the Burazi. #WalkingDead

The year begins, bathed in sunshine and crisp, fresh winter air. Alas, I find myself confined indoors with a nasty head cold. Sleep is interrupted by coughing fits, leaving me with tired, red eyes and all the usual symptoms.

#TheDiplomat Season 2. I dived straight in, without a recap from the previous episodes, so it was a bit chaotic in my head trying to catch up! Brilliant TV, though.

Three pieces of ceramics I’ve done during the workshop in Budapest last month arrived this morning! There were five of them but two bigger pieces broke during the shipment :-( I was so disappointed…

Courgette and cheese bread.
The owner of the whole foods and refill store across the road wanted a recipe. I was buying courgettes there and told him what they are for. It sounds really good, I am interested, he said. E-mailed him the recipe, with the photo of the final product 🙂

At the ceramics workshop in Budapest this morning! Thought I’d be rubbish at it but it was easier than I thought. And the staff helped whenever needed.
