25 years of this shit, and I still really have no idea what I am doing, I have just become pretty good at faking it.
You're in the UK right? If not, and you're in the US, I maybe able to send you a real drive of around that size.

The nerd equivalent to crop circles?

No, and you can't make me! I have PTSD from those days man...

Completely silly question from someone who knows very little about this subject, but if you rotate the monitor 180 degrees, does the pattern stay on that side or move to the other side?

Basically I am asking if you have ruled out environmental factors rather than the electronics.

4/ Again, I am not saying what they did last night is right or wrong, I feel they could have stayed the course a little while longer, but I also think that the GOP probably would not have blinked first on this one, they just don't care enough about the people they represent.

But Schumer needs to go

3/ Anyone not at the table can't really know the internal turmoil that happens when you are forced into lines of thinking you never wanted to go down and the decisions you are forced to compromise on in order to protect and maximize the people you represent.

2/ Having been at a negotiation table more than a few times, working on issues that have real world consequences for people, some life changing when it comes to salary, I can say it's not what it looks like from the outside.

I can't really think of a better use case for this meme.

Did you consider throwing a sandwich at him?

Oh, well just be really careful, apparently they can "explode" and you then have to smell onion for a bit.

Personally I'd move the CF card to a different system before I tried a different controller. Better to try and rule out the CF card first IMO.

But then again, I am also lazy, so it'd probably just boil down to whichever is actually easier. lol!
November 5, 2025 at 11:38 PM
Worth a try. If that CF won't boot in a bog standard 486 or early pentium machine, then I'd call it "not IDE compatible" and move on.
November 5, 2025 at 11:21 PM
Does fdisk /mbr change anything?

I am thinking you have a CF card that is not quite compatible with the IDE standards. I've had a few like this, they're usually the super cheap ones, and they acted very similarly to what you describe. I've no idea how you could confirm this though.
November 5, 2025 at 11:17 PM
What happens if you boot the system and then just do a "format c: /s"? And if it completes, are you able to boot from that CF card?
November 5, 2025 at 10:45 PM
My gut is that your CF card is does not fully support the IDE standards, and/or there is something funky with it taking a boot sector.

Is it a major branded CF, or just some cheap thing from Amazon?

Oh man, I agree. The number of people who seem fail to understand that making money is the number one goal of big corps, and that this directly conflicts with their own interests in most cases is shockingly high.
November 5, 2025 at 8:25 PM
Actually come to think of it, this is more aggravating and insulting that thinking they are doing it because they thing consumers can't work out what's best for their dishwashers.
November 4, 2025 at 9:47 PM
I am pretty sure it's not their thinking consumers can't work this out, in fact I would guess that this was not even on the radar when they came up with this idea.

It's to make them more money, either by selling less product for more money or selling it for less, but getting you to buy more of it.

Genuine question seeking to understand why this is a danger. Salmonella is easily killed by cooking the chicken, and as long as you get it above 165F you should be ok. Am I missing something?

The much larger issue is that private ind. can influence the FDA as much as they do. That is scary as hell.
