A few elements in the dress are inspired by traditional Chinese garments, such as the button closures on the neck and the tassels, and the headpiece was inspired by headdresses in Peking opera costumes. The ruby arrowhead bolo tie was included to show a merging of her past and present self.

The dress was inspired by one in the Christian Dior 1998 SS couture collection. It reminded me of a moth, which is an important symbol of Sînneva's roots, character development, and metamorphosis. I also narrowed the bottom of the dress to represent a sort of cocoon she is emerging from.
