It’s different though! Imagine if VTA light rail cars could seamlessly switch to and run along Caltrain tracks.

Periodic reminder to everyone that a seamless SMART-Ferry intermodal station was originally planned for Larkspur. More info on its demise: thegreatermarin.wordpress.com/2013/02/04/l...
Larkspur has a second chance to do SMART right
While Sonoma gets to reap the benefits of SMART, including a $15 million expansion of the IOS to the Santa Rosa Airport, Marin’s commuting public rightly grouses that it doesn’t serve their needs. …

Pretty sure Contra Costa County has exactly 15 passenger rail stations: 12 BART stations and 3 Amtrak stations.

Do planned stations count? If yes and it’s not already counted, what about the Hercules Capitol Corridor station?

Yes.

What about when you touted “historic preservation” when trying to block a ten unit housing development in your neighborhood? www.berkeleyside.org/2020/08/07/l...
Landmarking fails for 130-year-old Berkeley house in passionate debate over housing, history
Those in favor spoke about the house's beauty and charm, but others raised the issue of a Bay Area housing crisis and exclusionary neighborhoods.

One of the drawings is boldly titled “San Francisco San Jose International. “ I wonder if usurping SJC was part of the plan.

Are you not a fan of the Dutch “protected intersection” model more generally or do you think this particular example is flawed?

Yeah, electrification was absolutely a prerequisite for the speed and frequency upgrades.

I wonder why. Are “driverless” cars in fact an illusion that require armies of behind the scenes support staff? We know that Cruise’s tech was so clunky, remote human drivers had to frequently intervene. www.cnbc.com/2023/11/06/c...
Cruise confirms robotaxis rely on human assistance every four to five miles
Cruise recently took the drastic move of grounding all of its driverless operations following a collision that injured a pedestrian in San Francisco.

Airport service is the only use case non-riders really care about, which is why it’s often prioritized at great cost, for marginal benefits to everyday riders.

BART is pretty good, but I think Japanese rail underscores how overbuilt BART is, especially outside the inner Bay Area. Except for the Shinkansen, Japanese rail and track infrastructure becomes pretty simple outside the core.

It’s not surprising when you think about it. BART is basically a shuttle between the SF Financial District and satellite parking lots. LA Metro actually serves dense neighborhoods and corridors.
