Having loved and listened to Sir Simon Rattle’s @thecbso.bsky.social recording of John Adams’s astounding symphony-but-name Harmonielehre (1985) for over 30 years, I can’t wait to FINALLY hear him conduct it live with the Berlin Phil on Saturday!!

Getting my Aldeburgh Festival Midsummer started. Mark-Anthony Turnage’s Refugee (2018) yesterday, Purcell’s King Arthur (1691) tonight & Helen Grime’s Violin Concerto (2015-16) tomorrow, plus some Kidane, Berio, Boulez, Saariaho, Salonen, Britten, Matthews and whatnot. World premieres too.

Whenever at Trafalgar Square, I’m always reminded of two things: Monty Python’s splendid - and historically ever so accurate - re-enactment of the famous death of admiral Horatio Nelson as well as Rowan Atkinson’s Freudian interpretation of Nelson’s Column.
