Should look like as according to a game developer. Elden Ring didn’t have this and it made areas as a whole, less interesting to actually playthrough with the exception of Leyndell or Shadow Keep

Path, only to end up unlocking a door that was at the beginning of the area. And in previous games, areas would have multiple of these backtracking paths that create shortcuts. It makes areas feel alive, like they were built with an actual in-game logic. Rather than some vapid idea of what a castle

Their predecessors in everything but visual spectacle. And my biggest gripe with Elden Ring’ area design is the lack of backtracking. While it might sound bad to someone not familiar with soulslikes, it’s unironically one of my favorite parts about them. Getting lost in an area, going down a random

To items, maybe a stray talisman but nothing super significant. Now I will admit though, that Elden Ring did accomplish 2 of their best legacy dungeons EVER, in stormveil and Leyndell. Both of these are amazing as legacy dungeons, but the rest of ones in Elden Ring just come up short compared to

Interconnectivity that previous titles had, particularly Bloodborne. For example, Nokron, the haligtree, and volcano manor. While extremely beautiful, heavily lack the branching paths that previous games had. Merely being one main path, with maybe a couple other short ones tha usually only lead

1. Heolstor, The Nightlord (Elden Ring: Nightrein)

The single greatest knight design in fromsoft history, every attack flows seamlessly into the next. Not a single character is unviable against him. The single coolest phase transition in souls history, a visual spectacle for the ages

2. Messmer The Impaler (Elden Ring: SOTE)

The more I return to him, the pity I feel grows bigger and bigger. Burdened from birth to wield everlasting flame and carry a dormant god within him, and despite being hurt and abandoned by his mother. He could not help but love her until his death.

3. Slave Knight Gael (DS3)

The culmination of an entire trilogy rested on this man. And he delivered, his lore of him being a nameless nobody, who survived long enough to posses the most powerful object in existence. A battle for the right to create the new world, even if he never wanted to win.

4. Inner Father (Sekiro)

I love how he is portrayed in this fight like the opportunistic parasite he is, having the ability to mikiri counter YOU. With how he implements similar techniques that you yourself learn throughout your playthrough. Truly makes it feel as if he’s the final test of the game

5. Sword Saint Isshin (Inner) (Sekiro)

A constant back and forth, that’s the best way I can describe him. The way the fight flows so seamlessly despite him utilizing 4 entirely different weapons. Unironically one of the funnier final bosses with the addition of him pulling out a fucking gun.

6. Ludwig, The Holy Blade (Bloodborne)

On top of having a top 3 boss ost of all time, I love the way they show him briefly regaining his humanity in his cutscene. A simple change of perspective, changing his appearance from that of a twisted horse. To an aged, regal old man, returning to his craft

7. Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame (Elden Ring: SOTE)

God, the way his coat, which was a torn and ragged piece of trash, morphs into a long. Beautiful flowing cape, reminiscent of bird feathers amazes me every time. The way he moves is as if he’s dancing, along with the ost making him seem beautiful

8. Bayle the Dread (Elden Ring: SOTE)

The best dragon boss fight fromsoft has created. The choice to including two of placidusax’ heads, STILL biting into his nape was so damn cool, probably the best npc boss interaction fromsoft ever made. Him to regaining flight by creating wings out of LIGHTNING

9. Nameless King (DS3)

I always loved the crown motif he, his father gwyn and younger brother gywndolin shared of rising arches to symbolize their connection to the sun. Nightrein really made me appreciate his armors design more since beneath all that he’s literally a shriveled up old man lol

10. Soul of Cinder (DS3)

Thematically I love everything about this boss, how the game chooses to portray your ds1 character in his first phase by granting him 4 distinct weapon types. Before transitioning into Lord Gywns fighting style with an ost sync that’s made me cry multiple times.
