Today was a tough ending, but it was an incredibly successful season for the Washington Commanders. Congratulations to the entire organization and their many fans, including all of those who live and work here in Annapolis!

My family and I are saddened today by the death of former President Jimmy Carter. He set a standard for empathy and compassion that all former and current elected officials should seek to emulate. He was a good man and a caring public servant. That will be his legacy.

We are blessed this year to celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa literally within hours of each other. My family and I want to wish “happy holidays” to all those who celebrate those important religious observances. I wish everyone a joyous holiday season and the happiest of new years!

I was so thankful to be invited to the Government House to celebrate Hanukkah. The First Lady and Governor so warmly welcomed us into their home and reminded us of the importance of supporting one another. I especially enjoyed Rabbi Dana Soroken's teachings about finding optimism and pessimism.

I applaud County Executive Pittman on today's State of the County address. I was particularly encouraged with his focus on the work that still needs to be done to help our city and our county recover from the lingering negative impacts of the COVID epidemic.
