I’d recommend the Chronicles of Elantra series by Michelle Sagara. It’s a cop procedural set in a mult-cultural city of humans, elves, beast men, telepaths, and dragons.

It has an amazing magic system. People don’t cast spells, they tell stories and if their will is strong enough it alters reality.
