Yeah you're probably right!

Midcore single player games exist on the market though, so if that is what you want, you can just buy those; no one is making you buy realistic live service games for 100$ ?

however, a game purchase for all platforms is out of reach.. Xbox has Xbox+Windows tho!

Valve is a massive corporate empire. But if a studio shuts down due to their game failing (Partly because they were expected to make a end-of-life-cycle mode ;)) - Who will protect the IP then? Other people are just going to run off with the game and try to make money of it

When a game shuts down, servers are made available due to EU mandate; and a third party mods the server in some way and starts to make money of this title. Who will legally enforce that this doesn't happen? Who will protect their IP from being used for unlicensed commercial gain?

Then making the game for different platforms can also be quite a investment.

If they were to just give you the game on all platforms for 1 60$ purchase, They'd most likely be losing money, considering all these different platforms take a cut too. 30% steam, 30% playstation store, 30% xbox, etc

Games are more expensive to make than ever, like, It's a bit of a crisis, both operating costs and the time it takes to make a game are prolonged into many years. Games used to be made in 1-4 years. Now It's like minimum 5 years. (AAA, atleast). Costs of the games are crazy, hundreds of milions.
July 23, 2025 at 11:13 PM
Yeah exactly, that's the spirit!
July 23, 2025 at 11:09 PM
yeah no for sure, but I feel like Ross' tone and demeanour, I mean, just already beefing with people sets that tone and thus cultivates this kind of culture around the movement. But it's difficult or almost impossible to prevent tbh

Least they can try to do is make it more collaborative, less "War"
July 23, 2025 at 1:53 PM
but they are providing the opportunity to play these old, now preserved games though, so you can't really argue against them selling them. It's their IP/product and they can do as they wish. They are doing what SKG wants; providing end-of-life solution so these games can still be played.
July 23, 2025 at 1:48 PM
You bought/played all these games and then they shutdown? that sucks
July 23, 2025 at 1:46 PM
you bought the game for a certain platform, that's what you bought. That's not "abuse" - you agreed to buy this game for one platform
July 23, 2025 at 1:43 PM
exactly! so you have to design language that makes it so there is no leeway in speculation, there is one objective truth clear to all, that can be used by others to spread a specific message.

this is why people hire writers

Honestly you can't expect european professionals (or anyone) to sit through 10+ videos to catch up with the latest clarifications, drama takes and ross dunking on people
July 23, 2025 at 10:28 AM
just check Ross's videos and comments tbh, It's slowly getting to that point
July 23, 2025 at 10:21 AM
they can afford it by making sacrifices elsewhere, sure, which might result in worse services in some area.

Can you tell me about your experience of being "abused" intentionally by a company that "always" does that?
July 23, 2025 at 10:19 AM
where does the initiative ask this?
July 23, 2025 at 10:15 AM
That won't really make anything better, It's not diplomatic, It's not productive.

I really advice them to calm down and consider what they're actually saying and doing. It's better to sit at the table WITH the other parties to try and figure out what the best way going forward is. Collaborate.
July 21, 2025 at 5:08 PM
I understand that these people do not have experience in politics or effective communication. But pointing fingers, targeted harassment, intentionally creating a hostile environment for the industry groups, etc. Already setting the stage for some kind of "war" between the parties.
July 21, 2025 at 5:06 PM
my guess for the future is that this movement will be steered into a toxic "us versus them" harassment campaign. From the people that I've seen represent the movement, I'm already seeing a lot of red flags. Very unprofessional behaviour, hammering on the "us VS them" narrative and such.
July 21, 2025 at 5:04 PM
When communication is not clear, or it comes from multiple different sources, people will fill in the blanks based on these different sources and thus "misrepresent" the core point; but the core point is still unclear also, so I can't even verify what they really want. 2/2
July 21, 2025 at 5:00 PM
They need to make sure their core points are clear.

A lot of supporters are misrepresenting what the movement wants in the first place, the communication is incredibly muddy from the get go. You can't blame people for misunderstanding when your communication is already unclear. 1/
July 21, 2025 at 4:59 PM
When someone misrepresents or misunderstands your communication, you explain it again - and in a more clear way so that misrepresenting it becomes impossible.

You don't point your finger and say that they are misunderstanding it on purpose. This is not how effective communication works.

This as well, I really recommend them getting some experts on board to understand what they are demanding and to understand the consequences. - it might not be in anyone's favor.

It reeks of "just add multiplayer, bro" type of knowledge where the assumption is that things are just plug-and-play.
