Iirc the steel wheels' flanges are also necessary for the switches to work too.
The whole system originally was an attempt to subsidize Michelin/make the Paris Metro quieter, but Montreal needs it for the high inclinations

Although wait, the one in the picture is a regular FLIRT, the XL ones have two additional windows per side and some weird cowlings over the bogies
November 17, 2025 at 1:32 PM
Although BWegt use Flirt XL, which have longer cars, but only three of them

Pretty sure wooden ties are sometimes used/were used until recently to add dampening when switching from a regular track bed to a bridge and stuff like that

An sich hat die DB auch einiges an Überschuss, was Dostos angeht?

Also curious as to why SBB wanted a train that is double deck throughout, even though mixed formations seem to be the current thing. Maybe it's better suited to 550mm platforms accessibility wise?

After all the KISS did kick off with the Zürich S-Bahn too
November 7, 2025 at 3:44 PM
Interested to see if this will become another competitor to the KISS in other markets, even though that should really be the Desiro HC

Just you wait until someone decides to rename it into just "America" or even "Trumpland"
November 1, 2025 at 12:23 PM
Come up with a better name for the country then ig

I don't have numbers, but I'm pretty sure data prices have made a downwards surge in the past two or three years here, my Aldi Talk prepaid monthly data has gone from I'm pretty sure at most 5gb to 25gb since 2021 without paying more

But Alex Jones told me it's a gene therapy that causes your body to be possessed by demonic nanobots so what is the point of surviving cancer

No you see that train is part of the Iranian sleeper cells

Big fan of that newer RATP style interior, also on the Francilien sets, but in terms of exterior design, I'd rank the Munich C2 sets and new Hiroshima Astramline Sets very high. Big fan of the Munich U-Bahn interiors too

The shitty DHL Packstation QR code reader, but you have a qeue of people behind you trying to catch their train
October 15, 2025 at 6:57 AM
Can't wait for them to install fare gates that completely fuck Up with reading QR codes
October 15, 2025 at 6:54 AM
My schedule is absolute fever dream, but at least I have all Fridays completely off

Such a vibe

I love them though, feels like a time capsule.
Love the tiny branch lines with low single digit daily services that have multiple stations manned with a dispatcher with the nice uniform and little green paddle
October 7, 2025 at 2:33 PM
Is it the 423s or the 430s that are at fault
October 7, 2025 at 2:20 PM
I mean they do still do it for the rollende Landstraßen, where they place completely trucks on a kind of long articulated well wagon you can completely traverse, and the truck drivers all sit down in a passenger car
October 4, 2025 at 6:57 PM
Not sure, but have you seen the funny gates at construction sites where trams can keep running
September 29, 2025 at 9:08 AM
Like fast RE shuttle between Kassel and Göttingen via the high speed line would be a game changer, and the volume of ICEs on that route isn't that huge. Might even be able to use decommissioned ICE formations there when the ICE 1s start going
September 27, 2025 at 5:33 PM
I do think they still need to expand seat capacity quite a bit before they can do that. For the meantime, I think they could start filling up some free capacity on high speed lines by adding fast regional trains into gaps, possibly with discounted track access charges. Kassel-Göttingen for example
