The Commission maintains that Weyand’s words wer taken out of context. Here are the Commission’s on the record statements.

In a great win for EU trade diplomacy, it looks like we’ll see cybertrucks on EU streets soon, thus providing an idiot marker that is far superior to anything that was previously available on European streets.

Ich denke auch, dass die Kommission bald aktiv werden muss bei den Plugin-Hybriden. Die aktuellen Zahlen der chin. Handelsstatistik sind ziemlich eindrücklich.

Great article! But why would it open the door to an alternative system? Why would hedge funds stop government bond speculation and would developing countries not just be at the mercy of the ECB or whoever else replaces the Fed?

Chinese manufacturers are still increasing their exports, while slashing average prices. Total Chinese car exports increased by 16.8% within a year while the average price of an exported Chinese car dropped by 12.2%. And this does not only apply to cars, but nearly all product groups.
April 16, 2025 at 8:05 AM
However, Chinese exports of ICE cars and especially hybrid cars are skyrocketing. Plug-in hybrid exports to the EU have increased sevenfold within a year.

New Chinese trade data shows: The EU's EV tariffs seem to be working! EV imports are down a bit, but they're still substantial. Maybe the @ec.europa.eu found the sweet spot it was hoping for with the tariffs, stopping the dumping of EVs while keeping some competitive pressure on EU manufacturers...?

Betet, freie Schweizer Exporteure, betet!

March 19, 2025 at 1:58 PM
This is how dependent EU member states are from their exports to the US. Quite important context in case Trump goes for differentiated tariffs on different member states.

Happy to have joined @table.media this week! I'll keep covering and analysing the EU's (geo-)economic policies in a boiling, warring world from here in Brussels. If you have tips, opinions, or just wanna say hi, do reach out!

Old people also don’t like fiscal rules.

Apparently, there is somebody on the podium, but it’s impossible to tell through all the flags.

Lithuanian and Polish police hate austerity. Now you know.
December 12, 2023 at 10:08 AM
Hundreds (thousands? No clue how to properly estimate this) of trade unionists gathering in Brussels for a protest against the EU’s fiscal rules.

Racing through France at 300km/h and in awe of the policymakers who imagined this piece of public infrastructure into being and followed through on it.

I'm not 100% sure, but I guess nowhere? It will either need a treaty change, or you will have to argue that allowing for higher medium-term inflation will help keep inflation down in the long-term as industrial policy (hopefully) makes the economy more resilient.
October 20, 2023 at 8:13 AM
Anyway, we should urgently change that.
October 20, 2023 at 8:03 AM
This disproportionately hits young firms by the way. Do you have a good idea for an environmentally sustainable business? Tough look, there ain't no money because we have to suppress demand to our current level of supply to maintain price stability.
October 20, 2023 at 7:55 AM
The ECB has to react to supply shocks by reducing demand, which means making investments more expensive - bad news for an innovation-led green transition.
