I love SHINee, video games (especially JRPGs) & I post about random life stuff as well. Follow at your own discretion ;-)
Yeah... that's what "revitalizing the series" would mean. Maybe not necessarily to the extend of Cold Steel numbers, but probably more than it did (in Japan that is).

Ok...fair point. I do wonder how many of the people from way back when who lost interest would be willing to come back now... but I guess these ARE remakes of the very games they started with.

That begs the question how many will play anything beyond the remakes tho, but that remains to be seen.

Of for newcomers definitely, if they prefer pc as a platform.

Also ... I knew you were gonna say that but you're also VERY passionate about PC gaming 😅 I am passionate about portable gaming (I am only BARELY holding back on a Steam Deck), but not enough to abandon a series I've played on PS

Either way I personally might have preferred getting Kai 2 sooner - simply because the remakes do not tell a story that I didn't already know.

But they're good& they're doing what they were supposed to do (at the very least in the Asia region & NA/EU), so I'll take them for the series' benefit.

on console before & then jumped to Steam for the remake? I like my series to be on one platform as much as I can (which is why I'm not switching from PS to Switch 2 despite preferring the portability).

It's for sure a factor...I just don't think it's a big one that'd move the needle significantly.

Didn't Kondo himself say though that the remake did not do the numbers in Japan that they expected and hoped it would, by far? I think I saw a tweet like that about the investor's meeting (granted, google translated it).
Sure, the Steam numbers are missing, but how many people played the series

[6/6] Personally speaking, playing this was way less exciting for me than playing a new Trails game would have been, purely because I already know the story. However, I am not going to let that affect my review because it doesn't affect the objective quality of the game. 8.5/10

Other things to note: The localization is *fine*, but definitely nowhere near the quality of the original localization. And I mean *nowhere* near it. [5/6]

It IS a slow burn still, so be prepared for that. But what this series so masterfully excels at is build up and pay off - even if the pay off sometimes happens in a different game entirely, it WILL happen. [4/6]

and if you don't like the newly remastered tracks, you can always choose the old soundtrack in the options menu. The characters are still amazing - Estelle is still probably my favorite protagonist in gaming - and so is the story. Needless to say, I cried by the end. [3/6]

Falcom, being the small developer they (comparatively) are, amazes here with how up-to-par graphics and animations truly are. Nothing new needs to be said about story, characters or music. For the sake of a comprehensive review: The music is still really good [2/6]

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter

A very good remake of the first game in a very amazing, long-running JRPG series. Whilst I personally think the chibi style of the original trilogy has its nostalgic charms, this one is definitely the better game by modern standards. [1/6]

I hope that one is good even without the added context cause I like what I've seen so far (& I'm not even a huge farming game person). That being said, if the company's future hinges on this one game's success, then I am still worried, ngl.

But I do like the prospect of a possible Kai 2 ww release
December 18, 2025 at 6:27 AM
I'm fine with waiting, I'm just worried NISA will go under by the time Falcom finishes Kai 2 (mainly because the NISJ games keep flopping, i'm surprised they lasted this long at all) and then we have the whole "who's gonna localize it?" debacle again 😩 maybe that's an irrational fear tho
December 18, 2025 at 6:16 AM
Ya know, you make me think the formatting of "sin" being "SiN" is not coincidental with these hints lol. I'll try not to dwell on it too much tho, I haven't played Kai and I'd rather be surprised when I do

WHY. WOULD. YOU. NOT. AT. LEAST. AUTOSAVE. EVERY. 5. MINUTES.

I think the game is okay for what it is - the first in a series that was originally released on the SNES and remade for the PSP. But I really do not ever need to play it again. 5/10, sorry not sorry [6/6]

and VERY scarcely placed save points in dungeons. I cannot even tell you how many times one of the weird difficulty-spiked random enemies knocked out my party and I had to replay a whole hour of game. WHY. This is a remaster. [5/x]

(yes, worse than Xenoblade 2), the combat is boring at best and frustrating at worst. The writing is kind of stilted. The underlying story is not bad, the execution is though. But the absolute WORST part is that you can only save on the world map [4/x]
September 14, 2025 at 9:17 PM
Liked the characters themselves, the Private Actions helped make them feel like people and illustrated the bond of the party. The look is quite nostalgic and cute.

The bad: The world map is empty, the encounter-rate too high, the tutorials are almost non-existent [3/x]
September 14, 2025 at 9:17 PM
and that was quite frustrating at times.

The good: A good soundtrack, even if only few tracks. Love the fact that your choices do matter and affect the characters you can recruit, and when you can recruit them, which will in turn affect the story. [2/x]

Star Ocean First Departure R

A game that is showing its age, despite it already being a remaster of a remake of a SNES classic.
I am sure that at its time, it must have been really good for what was possible on those consoles. But I have to review my own experience in 2025 [1/x]

Schaffe es dann auch mal zu antworten 😂 ja sowas ist auch echt geil. Als ob die menschen nicht merken würden, dass etwas von KI geschrieben wurde. So gut ist KI leider nicht. Das fällt auf.😂

though after how exhausting work has been for me these past few weeks.

Graphics are really pleasing and man if it doesn't have the best Disney song that did not come out of Disney for a theme song.

8/10, would recommend (even though it is NOT a JRPG)

than usual with Nintendo games. The best part about this game was that, whilst easy, it kept rewarding you constantly. Whenever you wanted to put it down you'd go "Oh, just one more banana" and suddenly 2 hours have passed. It being easy also made it quite relaxing to play [2/3]
