Considering Microsoft has poured at least $13 billion in funding to OpenAI, there is a heavy economical tie between the two. On positive side, it makes a clear, measurable milestone instead of vague definitions of AGI. And with extreme expenses, this commercial viability view is understandable.

There is a blind spot of capitalism there. You buy a privately owned apartment on private lot, but yet the value is effected quite much by what is or what comes to other lots nearby, while you did not pay anything for that lot.
