Why would the writers write them like the way they are after it all if it wasn't intended to be treated as a small moment of weakness? It's not cuz he's gay, it's cuz it wasn't a big deal

I don't know why you think that or why him being gay has anything to do with this. Couples get into disagreements all the time and surely if this was as big as you say it is, then we'd see that in the future appearances of them. But we don't. They're just a normal couple
