I’ve always wondered why federal minimum wage isn’t set above the poverty threshold. Currently it’s at $7.50/hour or $15,600 annually.

Keep in mind poverty is calculated post taxes.

State minimum wages protect the people but it is important that the Government sets a standard above poverty.

This is slightly off topic but stay with me for a moment. Federal minimum wage is set below the poverty threshold. While most state minimums protect their citizens by providing a wage able to support a family of four. The government should be morally obligated to set the base line above poverty.
