Found some purple jellydisc (I think), with a nice reflection, in the woods this weekend. Also managed to fix the access track after a fallen alder destroyed some of it.

Assessment of trawling impacts on 10 Vulnerable Marine Ecosystem indicator taxa (e.g. cold-water corals) across New Zealand waters show that 30 years of trawling reduced VME area by 20.8 %, with losses up to 40.7 % in some bioregions.

It was nice to see the progress of the participants during the @icesmarine.bsky.social training course on assessment of the seabed impacts of bottom trawling. Some participants even completed a first draft assessment for their own region using new data!

Started my travels to teach an @icesmarine.bsky.social training course on the bottom trawling risk assessment method that we have been applying in WGFBIT. Currently cruising through Belgium on the Eurostar, continuing tomorrow to Copenhagen after a night at my parents.

Starting the last day of my travel back from the #ICESASC25 in Lithuania (train ferry combo). The travel was fairly cheap with interrail with the ferry was only £126 return. But it does take 3 days 🙂 @sosbangor.bsky.social @icesmarine.bsky.social

Great to meet lots of collaborators again at #icesasc25. I'm looking forward to the excursion on the Curonian spit today, we'll almost get to Russia.

We're using a very wide range of sources to patch together maps of where and when herring used to spawn.

Great talk on using historical sources to map herring spawning grounds by @georginahunt.bsky.social for @projectfishistory.bsky.social.

No luck in actually getting tickets though. This happened when I first got to the front of the queue, and after that the tickets were just going to fast.

Started my journey to the @icesmarine.bsky.social science conference in Lithuania (2 days of train plus the ferry from Kiel, hence the early departure 🙂).

I'm giving a talk on Monday in session R on 'Assessment of bottom trawl impacts on the status of seabed communities in European Seas'. 🌊🦞🪱🪸

I've got one screen with some very flat colours, but it does show that the background in this image has been 'painted' black (visible as an outline around the fish face, and not looking good on my screen). Is that allowed in a photo contest???

Three species of mammals in the garden in the last weeks!

Nice weekend out in the woods. Captured a badger several times on the camera trap, they seem to very frequently stop for poos. Many broad-leaved helleborines about to flower in a place where I haven't seen them before.

Not flowering yet. Broad leaved I thought. Near Boncath

Golden-ringed dragonfly in the garden! I doubt that the tiny stream in front of the house is a suitable habitat so hard to imagine where it came from.
