Some hope from the Independent Sentencing Review. If the government are serious, they will divert funding away from prisons into communities.

A moving letter from a criminal defence solicitor representing a young mother of an infant, who explains the human cost of losing the new sentencing guideline.

“The justice secretary’s political point-scoring has devastating consequences”

A beautiful INQUEST event last night, launching their archive documenting 40 years of state violence and resistance at the Bishopsgate Institute.

@inquest-org.bsky.social radiate with integrity. I admire their fearless work and the deep community of bereaved families they nurture and fight for.

Same! The IWD theme was decided back in 1911 and that theme was… socialist revolution

Nothing like an MoJ puff piece for the prison where a baby died after her mother was left to give birth on a cell toilet without medical assistance. Prison will never be a safe place to be pregnant, and is no place for mums and babies.

RIP Brooke Leigh Powell, we campaign in your name.

Today’s HMI report is such harrowing reading — and this is just a snapshot of what goes on inside women’s prisons.

Prisons inflict violence and trauma on women who have already experienced more than enough violence and trauma in their lives.

Not Kat Slater complaining about lack of healthcare for pregnant women in prison! Dream campaign spokesperson tbh

Sonia Fowler is pregnant in prison and citing the stats that Level Up uncovered that show pregnant women in prison are twice as likely to give birth prematurely.

Counting this as a campaign win!

Mums eligible for early release from prison are trapped there because there’s no housing for them to be released to.

Crucial report ft. @laurajanes.bsky.social and a woman she fought to secure a home for to ensure she wasn’t separated from her baby.

Wrote about pregnancy in prison for the @magsassoc.bsky.social magazine in the hope it’ll lead to fewer custodial sentences. It features Elizabeth, who developed high blood pressure and gestational diabetes in prison and went into early emergency labour.

Spoke to Sky about mums going to prison and the way our legal system punishes individuals for failures in our social safety net.

♦️60% of women in prison are survivors of domestic abuse
♦️A third of women in prison grew up in care

Time to stop funding prisons and fund community services instead.
