A list of "Pronunciation Symbols" appears in the front of the book and also inside the back cover. This list offers a quick guide to the Merriam-Webster respelling system, which adapts itself to each readers regional variety of spoken English. For example, the pronunciation of the music term acciaccatura indicates that the first two a’s are pronounced like the o in the reader's pronunciation of cot (a vowel sound that varies across the U.S.). Finally, two new essays, "The Story of Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary” and “How a Word Gets into the Dictionary” will help readers appreciate where this book comes from and how it gets made.

Finally, The Telegraph has a bizarre fashion story entitled "Wool of gay sheep passes woke test for New York fashion debut". An LA-based designer, Michael Schmidt, has decided to use the wool of gay sheep only for his new collection called "I Wool Survive". It's actually a political and social statement. He wants to save the sheep from slaughter after he found out that farms often kill rams that refuse to mate with female sheep, probably due to their sexual orientation.

The industry that runs this global child supply market has profited by targeting the vulnerable. Taking and selling other people’s children for those who are desperate to find relief from their own pain, grief, loss has grown into a multibillion dollar global trafficking market. I never got to see the real Tam and she never got to see the real me. We were both trapped in a fantasy of someone else’s design and purpose. We laughed, we played, and in our own ways we looked out for each other. Tam confided in me and I listened. I was her older brother after all. We were both aware and silently outraged with how we were being treated. Tam was perceptive and observant. She was bright and intuitive. Like many of, she was mature in many ways, and yet naive and innocent. The burden, the abuse, the injustice ended when she took her life. The world may believe it was an accidental death, believe that it was her blindness that caused her to overdose, but when you’ve walked the same path, shared the same experience, put through the same industry, there is no mistaking the kind of pain we are forced to carry.

I'm definitely not trying to make an excuse for this. I'm just giving you facts, that he wasn't into, like, 8-year-olds. But he liked the very young teen types that could pass for even younger than they were, but would look legal to a passerby.

He's also claimed Palestinians are inherently violent.

This absolutely horrifies me. My jaw dropped reading it.
He brought up the example of a child who comes to the word "horse" and says "pony" instead. His argument is that a child will still understand the meaning of the story because horse and pony are the same concept. I pressed him on this. First of all, a pony isn't the same thing as a horse. Second, don't you want to make sure that when a child is learning to read, he understands that /p/ /o/ /n/ /y/ says "pony"? And different letters say "horse"? He dismissed my question. "The purpose is not to learn words," he said. "The purpose is to make sense."

Here's the thing that you've maliciously forgotten @durbin.senate.gov , people don't elect Senators to do PR. We elect you because you are supposed to serve and represent your constituents.

If the Senate no longer (if it ever has) represents people who live in America, it needs to be abolished.

At a news conference Wednesday, Biden said Democrats would have to break up the House-passed $2.2 trillion climate and social spending package to get “chunks” of it through the Senate amid opposition from Sen. Joe Manchin III, D-W.Va., to the full package. Democrats are using the budget reconciliation process to get around the Senate’s 60-vote threshold for ending a filibuster, and they need Manchin’s support to pass a reconciliation package with a simple majority vote. The president called out the child tax credit expansion as a big component of the package that he feels strongly about but that may not survive in the final version.
