Housing was cheaper but a lot of it was in much poorer condition and lacking basic amenities - hence government subsidies in General Improvement Areas and Housing Action Areas, rates of Council building/redevelopment, rise of Housing Associations. Speaking as a 70 yr old housing professional.

Ooo, thanks. Years ago, I watched Stakeout (it's a comedy cop film ffs) in the cinema and spent two hours on edge because I was convinced something horrible was going to happen to the dog. It was only when he made it through the film that I could watch it again and enjoy it!
