Ok, Brain Trust. What critter is hanging out in my mom's garden in Edmonton? It clipped all the iris leaves and then made a cozy little impression in the middle.

A Plains Spadefoot Toad avoids awkward eye contact with me the best way it knows how - digging itself backwards into the sand. Ok, bye.

Red Knots returning from the Arctic. I don't usually see them at this spot during fall migration, so these four birds were on a lil adventure.

oh cool, did you see 181 birds?

each click actually represents 50 birds, so the flock was probably ~9000 strong. it's phalarope migration!

I didn't know that forest fire smoke could block out the sun.

These are pics from yesterday from the train, between Le Pas and Thompson, Manitoba. 1st pic is from 5:30 pm, 2nd pic is 6 pm. For perspective, sundown here is 11 pm.

The lights on the 2nd photo are from the train's headlights.

After a week of rain, we finally got out for a few days of shorebird surveys. Don't worry, this isn't an ID challenge.

Anyone have any dictation-to-text apps they like to use to collect data? There are some great paid options, but free would be nice!

Any one know what this barring is on a double-crested cormorant tail and primary feathers? They look like fault bars, but are mostly on the hard feather vane.
