I’m sad.

I love the book and usually offer it as a book club selection. The audio version read by him is superb. And, the book must have been written with a ghost writer. Am I wrong? Does it matter? It nags at me.

He has agency on the battlefield and as a title-holding man. She lacks agency as a woman. She has ambition to compensate for her lack of agency. His agency is challenged by the witches interference. Her ambition drives the story. His undermined agency drives him.

Lady Macbeth is team ambition; Macbeth is team agency.

was a brilliant way to set a dark and twisted mood and foreground the supernatural; we more deeply empathize with a murderer who has been touched by demonic forces beyond his control. Also, good theater!
