Albertans deserve answers and transparency on how a brand new company with deep, close ties to the UCP government got $70 million in government contracts.

Closing the supervised consumption site at the Royal Alex is entirely an ideological decision from the UCP. It does not address the issues and, in fact, I can imagine will only return us to the exact same conditions that required the creation of it in the first place.

Alberta New Democrats stand with teachers, with workers, with trans children, girls and women, and with all Albertans who deserve to know their fundamental rights must be respected and upheld.

Danielle Smith and the UCP government want to further the privatization of our publicly funded health care system, allowing doctors to offer both public and private care services. This would bring American-style medicine to Alberta.

A $5 billion deficit while healthcare and education continue to be underfunded and no relief on cost of living burdens. That’s not good fiscal management and Albertans deserve so much better. #ableg #abpoli

Smith’s story makes no sense and it’s important to point out her press conference didn’t address any of the allegations launched at her by the former AHS CEO. Instead, she confuses people by talking about contracts and procurement. Albertans want real answers. #ableg #abpoli

I spent around three hours with the volunteers but they stayed out for much longer. Just after 2:00 AM, we received a text from the main organizer with these stats. Note the referrals to other services like the supervised consumption site, wound care, detox and housing agencies.

Last week, I joined the Street Cats on a patrol in downtown Calgary, meeting people who were preparing to spend the night on the street. In a five-block loop along 7th and Stephen Ave, we encountered dozens of people who asked for clothes, hygiene packages, warm food, drinks, and clean drug pipes.

The overdose prevention site in Red Deer will continue to operate 24/7 for now thanks to a court injunction. Harm reduction is healthcare and the OPS is a crucial resource that keeps people alive and potentially, towards a path to recovery. #ableg #abpoli

A dramatic rise in people needing income support in Alberta under the UCP government. Inflation, utilities, insurance, tuition, and housing are all going up and the UCP’s response? Capping the annual increase in those supports, refusing to raise the minimum wage and increasing their own benefits. 👎

The Alberta government prioritizes attacking children with gender dysphoria while Albertans suffer through crises in education, healthcare, housing and affordability. Better is possible but not while the UCP is in charge. #ableg #abpoli

Maintaining the lowest minimum wage in Canada suppresses wages for all workers in the province.

The stats the minister mentions don’t include the number of people who work just slightly above minimum wage, which is absolutely not enough to get by. #yyc #ableg
