I once had some ancap go after me over ama-gi because it was about people "evading debt" and so shouldn't be celebrated.
His complaint *as he put it* was that incident the word first described freed intergenerational debt slaves, who should have been held to repayment.

ordinary americans are filming ice agents and trying to save their neighbors. for all the hemming and hawing during 2024 about how democracy was an elite concern, the elites gave up far more quickly than average people.

I said that I'm not against the aesthetics of monarchy per se and you decided a lot of things about what I think based on that. I think I probably can't give you satisfactory answers because you're asking for the opinions of someone else.

Beside the point, but Trudeau activated extraordinary powers that would violate the 1st and 4th amendments in the United States for political purposes and the police ended the Convoy occupation of Ottawa with powers they had anyway. There's no reason to grant his claim that it was necessary.

I will resist the urge to describe the United States with the same level of charity.
Constitutional monarchs are not the kind of kings you're thinking of. But Trump wants to be the kind of king you're thinking of. The problem is arbitrary power, not the name you give it.

There are so many things that are practically worse. And the White House is not symbolically important to me, nor is avoiding the trappings of monarchy per se (there's a monarch on my money).
But the White House thing is the one that makes me feel most like things are completely out of control.
