Same! I was so excited when I got two blocks from our city’s protest site and could already hear it.

Fair criticism, for sure. I bet the actual demographics of who turned out yesterday would end up underscoring this point. Even people I know who have a lot less reason to fear were worried about their safety and becoming a target.

The article covers the plans for April 5 and literally gives the last word to the people organizing the April 5 events, with a call for mass turnout. But by all means, keep not reading the article.

Also, the vast majority of people I know have been worried about the lack of mass mobilization even up until yesterday when the events began. This article highlights why the current context changes the calculus on protests. More folks should be writing about this topic. I’m glad the article exists.

It’s easy to have a knee-jerk reaction to this headline 1) if you don’t realize the essay went live at 8AM before the April 5 protests began, and 2) you didn’t read the very thoughtful essay itself. Here’s the article as a gift. It’s worth the time.

Demonstrations have gotten smaller and more dispersed in Trump’s second term. Is that a bad thing?

But did you read it?

Did you read it? It was written before the April 5 protests and it is a thoughtful piece that talks about what is at stake in the call for protests for April 5.
