Trying to figure it all out, but not getting very far. When in doubt, knit or bake. Either creates wonderfulness!
That green is luscious. Love the happy croissant!

Thank you! I love the Mackinac Mitts! Looking forward to making and wearing them.

Relatable! I need to make myself a hat, but don’t feel like I can until I finish all the Christmas gifts I’ve started. Every year I say start Christmas in March and be done. But do I?? Of course not.

Those colors are gorgeous. I’m not a fan of afterthought because once I close the toe, the sock should be finished.

Someone needs to ask what he means by pre-war

Who does he think he is to demand a retraction and from scientists outside the US? Is this pure ego, pure stupidity? Both?

So much for sending education “back to the states.”

Very pretty!

My students use it. That’s why I get defiantly when they mean definitely. They just click on the first option. I’ve seen them do it. Sigh.

AI is integrated in everything. My dual credit students use Grammarly, which has AI. Word has copilot, Google docs Gemini (I think). Using those can make the detector pop.

This is how it’s going to have to be. I teach asynchronous online, but I think it all needs to end, esp for dual credit students. Sadly it limits access for non-trad, but the AI detectors are no good. When they used AI for peer review, I lost it.

I have lots of words. The take-away is she supports Trump, not the Constitution.
May 20, 2025 at 2:49 PM
True. In one peer editing assignment, one student called the other out for using it. It was obvious ChatGPT purple prose. The reviewer wasn’t having any of it. (But she brags how Grammarly gives her a “polished” draft).

I like the zoom student discussion. They have to authenticate it’s them so this could be a 2-fer. They could brainstorm a topic, generate main points. Talk about writing but at some point, they have to write. But this could work. It’s also getting Gen Z to talk to in-person.
May 11, 2025 at 5:04 PM
Thank you for the idea. It’s better. Some do well; others present AI script. I would conference with them, but zoom meetings-hard to schedule with non-trad and high schoolers, time consuming with questionable benefits. Dual-credit I’ve had parents take over the meeting-yes FERPA-not been positive.

I teach freshman comp—essays. No tests. I assess writing skills, which are critical thinking skills. In class doesn’t work for a sustained, developed argument. All I’m doing now is grading robot writing (which is generally bad). I teach process but they use AI for all steps, not just drafts.
May 10, 2025 at 2:30 PM
The problem is the AI detectors are crap, and I have no proof (which I’m supposed to provide). It’s not just ChatGPT. Students use Grammarly or Copilot; they argue it’s their words. Admin is no help.
May 10, 2025 at 2:07 PM
I teach online and see AI used most of the time via all the different platforms it’s integrated in. I could make them handwrite and post photos, but that’s not going to stop them from writing what AI gives them. I have no solution other than stop all online courses. Anyone else have ideas?

I’m in Underwood’s district, and I’m not sure who Dems would run to replace her. She’d be a great senator; just wish I knew who could take her place her. My county is cherry red.

I would buy this again if I could! I have no knitter friends to gift it to.

Obviously I don’t know how to seamlessly link a Substack post here. It’s a learning curve, right?
