Dr. Richard Besser (paraphrased)
I worked at the CDC for 13 yrs. There is nothing I'm more proud of in my career than working as a public servant.
To have to say now that I wouldn't turn to the CDC for information about vaccines or, to be honest, any health issues is absolutely hearbreaking.

For eight years, as a consultant to the Academy’s safety committee, I had the privilege of seeing Claude on a monthly basis. Not once did he ever try to eat me. R.I.P. big fella.

I really appreciate the people here highlighting the increased need for food bank donations with SNAP benefits about to be cut off!

That was the reminder I needed to set up a monthly donation to my local food bank. It’s only $20, but they can buy a lot more food with it than I could.
important reminder: food banks usually prefer money to direct food donations because they can buy at discounted rates

check with your local food bank to be sure but now is the time to help out

Brilliant film
Brutally subtle and terrifying. The ersatz family life of Commandant Rudolf Hoss adjacent to Auschwitz…his workplace. The Zone of Interest is a study in cruel indifference…something increasingly common closer to our own homes.

As a long-time Carlin fan, I've been wanting to post this for months, but I didn't know how to do it.👍👍

Timely
Today is William Golding’s birthday, the man who wrote Lord of the Flies. Given the current descent into chaos, acknowledgement of such a literary forewarning seems apropos.

Yep I saw it too and it was awesome!!
Approximately 8:10 saw the longest and brightest meteor burn I have ever witnessed headed West to East…and this from a long time viewer of showers like Perseid. Way cool.

It is Erwin Schrodinger’s birthday…acknowledged by physicists and theorists dabbling in quantum mechanics. Not so much a day appreciated by cats in cardboard boxes.

Happy birthday to Tom Hanks…who shares in common with my dearly departed brother-in-law a fascination with vintage typewriters. I own a few myself. Tap tap…tap tap tap …zing.
