Just finished Fundamentally by Nussaibah Younis is an intriguing novel. She worked in Iraq for 10 years in the area of rehabilitation of ISIS women and wrote policy papers. This is her first novel and is set among ISIS brides in a camp in Iraq.

This is gentle, warm, character-driven fiction. There are four Padavano sisters who are very close. The novel is inspired by but not a copy of Little Women. William, who has endured a desperately lonely childhood, is drawn to and embraced by the Padavano family. It saves him.

Took my three-year-old grandson to the Moon exhibition in St Albans cathedral. He asked how they'd managed to get the moon in. Felt I had to explain it was a copy, and the real moon was much bigger.

💙📚 My Classic read over Christmas was Turgenev's Fathers and Sons. I like the understated way Turgenev writes. He makes the reader work. Recommended.

My bedroom is at the top of the house under the eaves. There are three large skylights. It was very cold last night. I woke to iced up skylights. Then the sun came out, and the ice started to melt so beautifully.
