Textile artist, jewellery maker, knitter, spinner and trying to teach myself how to machine knit.
I hope you enjoy your knitting! Socks, cowls and hats make great portable projects, so once you are able to knit in the round it really opens up many options!😊

To knit socks you need to be able to knit, purl and to do increases and decreases - usually a knit 2 together and an SSK, plus you need to learn to knit in the round, some heels require short row shaping, plus slip stitch. Very Pink Knits on you tube is good for basic technique tutorials.

Very Pink Knits, or Roxanne Richardson on you tube have some good technique tutorials. As a crocheter, you may find Continental knitting a bit easier than other methods, as the yarn is wrapped around the needle using the left hand. Tin Can knits have some lovely beginner patterns.

I like Clover soft touch crochet hooks, they have comfortable handles and they can be found in many craft stores, in the US they can be found at Michaels, or many local yarn stores. Granny squares are basically a mix of chain stitch and US double (uk treble) crochet stitches, so not that difficult.
