I used to have a job. now I've got this

I have no past. the future is a beautiful mystery. and Otsu, who is still my friend, is waiting for me across the street. a diner means coffee. maybe even the real stuff. it's been a while since I've had real coffee. and I can afford it. this is The Big Time. tonight I'm going to bleed in front of an entire arena of screaming fans, a live tv audience, and the soft gaze of a loving god, of whom I am increasingly a righteous and beloved extension. it would be irresponsible of me to recommend drugs. but I do recommend the *feeling* of doing drugs. get there however you can manage it.

here, have some (some assembly required)
recipe for the above cookies (base recipe is for oatmeal raisin, I just subbed in pistachios and dried figs for this batch) ingredients: 2 sticks unsalted butter, softened to room temperature 1 cup packed light or dark brown sugar 1/4 cup granulated sugar 2 large eggs 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract 1 Tablespoon unsulphured or dark molasses (I didn't have molasses on hand, so I just skipped this and they turned out fine) 1 and 2/3 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon salt 3 cups old-fashioned whole rolled oats 1 cup raisins (or other dried fruit; dried figs, cherries, etc.) 1/2 cup chopped toasted walnuts (or other nut; pistachios, pecans, etc.) directions: 1. Cream the butter and both sugars together until smooth. Add the eggs and mix on high until combined. Add the vanilla and molasses and mix on high until combined. Set aside. 2. In a separate bowl, whisk the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt together. Add to the wet ingredients and mix on low until combined. Beat in the oats, fruit and nuts on low speed. Chill the dough for 30-60 minutes in the refrigerator 3. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Form cookies with scoop or hands. Bake for 12-14 minutes until lightly browned on the sides. Let cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

they're quite good. the pistachio/fig combo works quite nicely. the fig isn't sweet enough to cut through the way raisins do, so it's more subdued than a normal oatmeal raisin, which makes for a sluttier cookie imo
