"Purports to generate factual information"? I'm sorry, but have you actually read their Terms of Service? They explicitly say that's not the case. It's the first thing that pops up when you access duck.ai, and it's not prohibitively long like Google's clickwrap agreements.

Most interestingly, while a scientist by trade and not at all divorced from the ideological commitments to the profession, Gould sees precisely this "fetichization" of science (to use a technical term) as a cause, not as the cure, of the ills professed by scientific racism and the like.

This is notable to me for the aphorism at the end, but it highlights an important aspect of The Mismeasure of Men. While it was motivated by many reasons, not least of which the ressurgence of the topic at the time, it holds just true against newer iterations, as the theory is old and bunk anyway.

This is about one of the restrictions Gould imposed upon the scope and framing of his work, and the way his scientific expertise and historical curiosity aided in writing this kind of book.
