Exactly so. Science and anti-science have been politicized, so the battles are now and must be political.

I’m sorry, Daniel. 😞

Yes, all intertwined so all must be battles. But the specialized focus points of the skeptic movement (that you & I often articulated and advocated for) are now too narrow for the battles at hand. The movement once fractured by various internal forces is not now in need of reassembling. It’s past.

Exactly so. You’re not going to achieve anything now by treating anti vax as a science education problem. And you can’t reason with hate driven by ignorance. You now have to do battle in the voting booth. Period. (And debunking pseudoscience pales in comparison to battling fascism.)

As the GOO became aligned with the right wing Christian conservative movement (circa 1976/1980) it became increasingly antiscience. It is now the party of antiscience, antihuman rights, antidemocracy. So the battle now is & must be political.

I agree with your insightful historical review, Daniel. But the movement will not be revitalized anytime soon. There is no realistic basis for optimism that the divisions you describe can be resolved back into a unified movement.

It’s dead. It’s just there’s a few stragglers who haven’t noticed.
