Don't forget the sex crimes angle, that's how you can go after the religious leaders.

Say what you will about the ignorance and selfishness of the average American, pop culture has done a pretty good job impressing "Nazis bad" into the American self-image.

Without Trump and with a bunch of loathsome openly Nazi edgelords in charge? I just can't see it appealing. I could see Americans going for generic authoritarianism dressed up in Trumpian razzamatazz, but outright Nazi revisionism has to alienate the broad middle of the country.

Probably a clear and unambiguous pro-Israel statement and recantation of his prior statements on the issue, which he was no doubt unwilling to do.

I know you didn't say that this piece was a Syd Mead, but my brain won't let me not point out that it's actually a Robert McCall.

If you want my opinion, I think that if WelcomePAC and Third Way were serious about winning purple and light red areas from MAGA they could spin up a cohesive purple independent movement pretty quickly with their resources and infrastructure.

...they were able to successfully take seats from the right despite being little different from the centrist faction of the Labor party just by selling themselves as "not Labor, but we care about climate change".
October 30, 2025 at 12:30 AM
It could work, but the independents need their own brand with clear and legible points of difference from the Dem/progressive brand. Look at the success of the Teal Independents in Australia in '22...

Well, Takaichi is a pretty hardcore conservative who was a protege of Shinzo Abe so she probably actually likes the guy.

Iron Law territory is a lot meaner than any standard of living anyone in a developed country would consider acceptable.

True, but if a legal way could be found to mobilise the Democrats' fundraising infrastructure on behalf of food banks, then a lot of good could be done.
