May book 1 was wild as hell. It’s a sort of stream of consciousness, at times absurd to the point that I lol’d. It features a flawed af narrator that operates by very binary rules that she’ll abandon as soon as you get think she you’ve figured her out. Just unhinged.

April reading wrap up. This year as I was getting back into reading more regularly, I set a goal to read 35 books before the end of the year. As of the end of April I’ve already read 26, so think it’s safe to say I’m about to crush that goal.

Finished this one last night to make 8 for April. Ishiguro loves an unreliable narrator and it is beautifully done in this book.

April book 7. This one was just ok. It was a quick read and mostly entertaining. Starts out pretty strong, but then is full of a lot of convenient coincidences, cliche characters and an ending that I found a little ridiculous. Feels more YA, didn’t know that going in.

April book 6. The most beautifully tragic love story I’ve maybe ever read. My second Baldwin, definitely won’t be my last. Both books I’ve read by him have reset the bar for what I consider a 5 star read.

April book 5. Ugh, I don’t know. I had high hopes based on reviews. The concept gets an A+. Just absolutely bleak, disturbing and existential. My favorite. But I found the writing to be….not very good. It distracted from the story at times.

April book 4. A dingy old second hand copy with what I can only assume are notes from a previous reader’s lit class. Hello existential crisis, nervous breakdown and family trauma in 2 parts. This book was brilliant.

April book 3. Sometimes you finish a book and you realize you wouldn’t say you enjoyed it, but you do appreciate it for being deeply moving and profound. The descriptions of mental illness and addiction felt so intimate and personal it was almost like I shouldn’t be reading it.

April book 2. Enjoyed this one but nothing overly moving or mind blowing. The narrator for this audiobook is excellent, imo.

First book for April, this was a powerful read. I love an epic generational family saga and this one delivered that and so much more.

March wrap up. More audiobooks than physical this month, mostly because it’s nice out and it’s time for yard work. The books from this month were either some of the best I’ve ever read or I didn’t know how to rate them or how I felt about them. #readingwrapup

March book #4 and my first by Toni Morrison. This book was like reading beautiful poetry about the darkest parts of human existence. It ripped my heart out and made me feel so many things. Incredible.

March book #3. This one was… unsettling. Themes of obsession, power, control, art the artistic process, class and social status. It did drag for me a bit in the middle, overall the author is saying a lot within a simple plot and I’ll be thinking about this one for a while.

Book #2. Damn, March is shaping up to be a great reading month. Slightly embarrassed to admit I’ve slept on Baldwin until now, will definitely be reading more. The 300 character limit isn’t nearly enough to explain how much I loved this book. Blown away.

March book #1. It was a slow burn for me and then becomes quietly devastating. The last chapter and particularly the last few pages are just masterful. You could write an essay analyzing the narrator. A beautiful story of regret and what could have been.

Book #9 for February. This was a #booktok made me read it pick and I was so glad I did. A unique take on grief that reads like the retelling of a fairytale or folklore and everyone is queer AF. Super weird, a little gory, a lot heartbreaking.

February wrap up! 📚💙 🖋️
Growing up I was an avid reader, but have not made time for it consistently as an adult. I decided to prioritize it this month to decrease the urge to doomscroll. I read more books in Feb than I did in all of 2024 and have rediscovered how much I love reading.

Book #7 for Feb, finished a couple days ago. This was a beautiful, gut wrenching tear jerker exploring generational trauma and abuse, Native American culture, racism, poverty, women’s struggles and the importance of family bonds. Some serious TWs but just a fantastic book.

Choose 20 books that have stayed with you or influenced you. One book per day for 20 days, in no particular order. No explanations, no reviews, just covers.

Going back to elementary school again for this one.

Finished my 6th book for the month. This one just didn’t work for me. It was an interesting concept and I appreciate what the author was trying to do but it started getting repetitive and boring at times. Not terrible, just didn’t move me.
