I didn’t love all the arrangements (particularly the rather astringent arrangement of the Ravel; and given that the chamber group was the Doric String Quartet, we heard relatively little string playing), but Louise Alder was in delectable voice throughout this concert.

Kudos to the Kingston Choir, Thames Sinfonia, Katherine Crompton & Gareth Brynmor John (the two superb soloists) and conductor Andrew Griffiths for learning this rarely heard repertoire and performing it all with such aplomb!

A wonderful & moving celebration of the music of Herbert Howells, with astoundingly fine singing by the BBC Singers (jaw dropping to think we nearly lost them to the BBC axe this year), directed by Nicholas Chalmers (when Ed Balls didn’t step in!). Thrilling organ playing by Ashley Grote too.
