Unlock Book Ideas Fast

If you're stuck trying to figure out what short nonfiction book to write, ask yourself these 3 questions:

1. What do I love talking about?
2. What have I done that I can help someone else do?
3. What do I search for when I have free time?
September 3, 2025 at 2:29 PM
Books don’t have to be long.
They have to be clear.

Write short.
Ship fast.
Help people.

📚 They are called minimalist books.

Most creators overcomplicate their newsletters.

You don’t need 1,000 words.

Try this instead:

- One-liner teaser
- Bold link to your Medium story
- A sentence or two of commentary

That’s it.

Send it. Repeat it.

4. You can optionally add a reward at the bottom of each column as I did in the example.

I think a picture makes it much easier to understand, here’s a grid I've used in the past.

Here’s a really simple minimalist book idea.

1. Publish your thoughts on a specific subject daily on Substack Notes.
2. Compile and publish them as a book about your thoughts on the topic.

What’s another simple minimalist book idea?

Two days in a row now, supposed to take tomorrow off, but I don’t think I can, I’m too excited.

I may just wait until this book (#3) is published in July to take a full weekday off to myself.

I changed the format for my latest book (the third one in the #12BooksIn12Months challenge).

That may up the overall word count.

Minimalist Communities

Started with miniBB way back in the day.
Now I use Skool.

Both were simple, clean, fast, and easy to use.

I didn't have time to write yesterday, but did write today, and adapted my timeline to stay on track with book #3.

The full weekly update will be published on Medium this weekend.

Yesterday (Day 17), I proofread.

Today (Day 18), I designed my cover.

I'd love to hear from you.

Yesterday was an editing kind of day.

Today, it’s formatting.

Day 13 & 14 updates of my #12BooksIn12Months challenge.

I just realized I messed up my timeline.

Day 14 was supposed to be the last writing day, but I entered the publish date in Atticus as my due date :(

We learn, and we keep going!

I'll finish writing book 1 this weekend to stay on schedule.
