That’s such a sad (and comic) story. My uncle Brian, also an actor, spent his POW years playing the female roles in camp productions of Coward and Patrick Hamilton. Unfortunately his contemporaries back in Blighty were getting masses of work at Ealing etc. and Brian never caught up with them postwar
