Spotted at a Los Angeles area Home Depot. Tried to tell a (fellow white lady) cashier and she rolled her eyes and said she’s “not getting into politics.”

Nova clearly has a lot of German Shepherd in her: the tail, the hips, the ears, the muzzle. Also the intelligence, loyalty, and trainability. This is not an obstinate or willful dog—she LOVES to please her humans. Please contact me if you’d like to know more about her!

Nova is exactly the type of dog who, with training and patience, could make someone an excellent service dog. She loves kids and people and dogs, though we are working with her on her leash reactivity to other dogs. She is otherwise great on a leash!

Here’s a hopeful story from @anatosaurus.bsky.social about the fall of Pinochet’s fascist rule in Chile:

There was a referendum to prolong Pinochet‘s rule, and the government, which controlled all the media, got to advertise every moment of the day, and the “No“ campaign got one hour every night or once a week at midnight on one channel. And initially, what they were going to do, because they were going to lose anyway, was to make ads about how bad the regime was, which was not a hard case to make with a military dictatorship, but there was an ad exec who convinced them to run an entirely positive “No” campaign. Their emblem was a rainbow, and their slogan was: “Chile, la alegría ya viene“ – i.e., happiness is coming, and the ad featured rainbow-colored people roaming in the fields on horseback and picnicking, and they won.

If you are not an experienced rescuer, remember: THROW, DON’T GO. This means it’s much safer to throw a drowning person a line/a floaty/a surfboard/a cooler/whatever than to put yourself in danger as well. Many well-intentioned people have drowned trying to save someone else.
A flier titled “Proper rescue techniques: Reach, Throw, Row, Go for Help. If the person is close, reach out with a long object. If you cannot reach the person, throw them anything that floats. If there is nothing to throw, row a boat to the person in trouble. Never place yourself in danger by going in for the person. Instead, go for help!”

DROWNING DOESN’T LOOK HOW YOU THINK IT LOOKS. TV has led us to believe that drowning victims wave their hands wildly in the air for minutes, calling out for help.

Irl, drowning is quick, silent (bc they can’t get enough air) & sorta looks like your buddy is just goofing off.

DROWNING IS THE #1 CAUSE OF DEATH FOR KIDS AGED 1-4 & THE #3 CAUSE FOR KIDS AGED 5-19.

Drowning can happen in the bathtub, a bucket, a baby pool—anywhere there’s a few inches of standing water. Kids can slip away, drown & die in just a few inattentive minutes.

DON’T DIVE. Period. But if you must, only dive into the dive tank at the local pool (NOT your buddy’s private pool). Diving is the 4th leading cause of spinal cord injury. These tend to be life-altering injuries and many victims will need 24/7 care for the rest of their lives.

Hey whatever happened to the idea of Congress acting as a check on SCOTUS by giving them zero budget until they can behave like adults?
