Grateful to attend the #SHEAR2025 Annual Meeting (my first!)

I'm presenting a counter-history of "contact" as experienced by Indigenous trans women along the "Western frontier." And always-forever sharing my fav history fact: Indigenous trans womanhood is at least 4,500 years older than the USA.

My review of A Short History of Trans Misogyny is out now @ucpress.bsky.social! 📖

TL;DR It is the book we've been waiting for &, as usual, JGP doesn't disappoint; however, her extreme temporal limits necessitate stating - trans misogyny was centuries in the making by the C19

& very grateful to have received feedback on a chapter I am writing. It seeks to reread (or maybe unqueer) the history of Indigenous "sexuality" as instead one of trans womanhood, made legible by respecting cultural logics of transformation that allow boys to become women, sometimes unremarkably ❤️

Had the gayest of times in Copenhagen last week! Reunited w/ my supervisor @rachelcleves.bsky.social, heard excellent keynotes by @julianisenia.bsky.social & more, and even met my long-lost cousin @susannebranner.bsky.social, who is the fearless leader of LGBT+ Denmark (it runs in the family!) 🏳️‍🌈

This talk was but an abridged version of two new forthcoming chapters! So, if you missed it, you should be able to read what I had to say in long-form text later this year or next :)

A belated thank you to @hflgbtq.bsky.social, @maayana.bsky.social, & all who joined my Oxford lecture Friday! The interest & investment from attendees was so very humbling.

In lieu of a full recording (we forgot lol), I've made my script & slides available at the link below 💗

Excited to attend BC Studies 2025 in xʷməθkʷəy̓əm Musqueam territory this weekend!

Will be presenting abridged versions of my four dissertation chapters, which micro-historically trace the lives of Indigenous people who transformed gender in the first century of colonial "contact" (~1790-1895) 🖤

So lovely to be in community at the @uvic.ca Moving Trans History Forward conference this weekend 💗

What a gift it is to be among the first generation of trans women who get to build History careers together, not in isolation or in the closet 🏳️‍⚧️ (11 of us & counting!)
