Why not? "The only thing we have to fear is...fear itself," and so my question for you @repcohen.bsky.social is this: when you attend your caucus meeting today, will you be there to ask why, or why not?

Why not fight to close the enormous income gap? Why not fight to make them pay their fair share? Why not fight to ensure every American can house themselves affordably? Address the root causes of crime? Make our air and water the cleanest it can be? Make our public schools the envy of the world?

I believe that for too long the Democratic party has been content to ask why. Now more than ever, we need a Democratic party that will ask why not. Why not fight to protect us from the predations of the ultra-wealthy? Why not fight to close the enormous income gap?

The remarks that stick with me are thus: “Other people, he said, ‘see things and.. say: 'Why?'.. But I dream things that never were-and I say: 'Why not?' It is that quality of the Irish--that remarkable combination of hope, confidence, and imagination--that is needed more than ever today."

But I worry we and more specifically the Democratic party are failing to meet this moment. In these ever darkening times one place I find a spark of light is in President Kennedy's speeches. With the recent passing of St. Patrick's day I was reminded of his address to the Irish Parliament.

Do you know if Goethe-Institut will be developing a presence here as well?
