I think that links in with what you're saying because the job of the salesman is to provide a layer of disinformation/gloss between the customer and skilled worker.

Could you elaborate on the word "exploit", or provide an example. In academia I think there's an incentive to obfuscate your work to make it seem more impressive, do you think this is also the case in the wider world?

We didn't even bother with that, we've just been using the 120V, 12A cable that came with the car. Is that wrong? Though that is with a Kona and only typically 30 miles a day.
