Pay elected officials a salary commensurate with their level of responsibility. You get what you pay for, or else they go looking for other pay.

Biden pardoned thousands of people for marijuana offenses. I'm probably the only one overthinking it, but asking about the number of pardons might be the wrong way to approach the question.

I used to live 2 blocks from there. I had a car that I parked in the street. It would sometimes take 30 minutes of driving around to find a spot several blocks away. I could see that being untenable for some people. Fortunately I took the train to work.

Is anyone tracking the success rate of the DOJ? Only 1% acquittal rate in 2022. They probably didn't even think to track grand juries. www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/...
Fewer than 1% of federal criminal defendants were acquitted in 2022
In 2022, only 290 of 71,954 defendants in federal criminal cases – about 0.4% – went to trial and were acquitted.

Websites can't block Gemini without blocking Google Search. That must be a huge advantage.

The only hope is that one of the mapmakers dies and his daughter shares the files showing that race was used to draw the maps (happened in North Carolina a few years ago)

Scary how many of the repliers think it's real, even after several others called it out. Happy for the $120k judgement though.

I think it's an old story - companies need to cannibalize their own business to keep up. If Google makes people click through to see websites, they'll switch to asking ChatGPT. RIP journalism.

You need to look at rent prices. in the 2000's, economists who called the bubble pointed to the divergence of purchase prices and rent prices. People might not be able to buy but at least they could rent. Now both are way up due to the continuing housing shortage.
