I am working to purge the dishonest and destructive mythologies of Monetarism and taxpayerism from people's brains.

You can read my essays on those subjects here:

This is a great quote from David Dayen from an interview with DEMOCRACY NOW on an important topic.

Schumer is disingenuous and needs to go. He is a collaborator, and impediment to progress.

That's a heck of a ratio.

Yes! The reason that attacking transgender rights and DEI "works" for Republicans is that Democrats agree to play defense.

Stop doing that!

Go on OFFENSE, dammit!

Yes, Steiner and I got the overall prediction correct even if we got the details wrong!

We predicted that Biden-Harris Neoliberalism would foster the return of *a* 'Trump'. We just didn't predict that that 'Trump' would actually be Donald Trump.

and, now, I also say that it is driven by Strict Father Morality, which probably more fosters gender hierarchy and misogyny than it is fostered by gender hierarchy and miosgyny.

Monetarism is murder.

How did we get to where we are now?

The Democratic Party's embrace of the dishonest conservative-libertarian mythology and moral framework of Monetarism is part of how.

This is a very good point about the #GrahamPlatner thing.

It's one thing for people to claim that they have converted.

It's another thing for people to surround themselves with people who reflect that conversion.

This seems plausible.

they had to constantly show deference to their socioeconomic betters to the point that such people don't bother demanding such policies in the first place.

I thought that free healthcare would be a great thing to have, but I didn't SAY anything about it, let alone publicly demand it, because being a net taker of "other people's money," as I knew full well that I would be IN THIS FRAMEWORK, is a shame that I didn't want to carry.

This is not to mention how much this notion only helps rich people and bigots and ONLY rich people and bigots, as @patriciapino.bsky.social explains here.
October 7, 2025 at 4:52 PM
Listen, please.

We will make zero progress on emancipatory social-welfare movements and, thus, against fascism until a critical mass of already-progressive people come to realize how disgusting and alienating the notion that public goods and services would be net funded by rich people is.

So, "taxpayer" is a term that means something derogatory like the terms "r*tard" or "handicap" do, but it is different in that it is applied to the speaker to be derogatory toward OTHERS.

To say "I am a taxpayer" is to say something bad about those whom you think aren't included in the group.
October 7, 2025 at 12:50 AM
This assertion from @estarianne.bsky.social very implicitly explains why the term "taxpayer" is inherently classist and exclusionary.

A while back, I asked readers if there was a term that was like a slur that you apply to others but that you apply to yourself as a way of demeaning others.

Jeet Heer called it back in August 2015, back when most pundits still treated Trump's candidacy as a sideshow and-or a joke.
