I don’t think em dashes are a clear sign of AI. The exclusive misuse of them like this is clearly a sign though. It’s like it understands good writers love em dashes, but is completely obvious to what its actually “writing”

What?

I think consent matters in organizing and protests. Letting people know the risks so they can make informed decisions on their own safety is paramount

I agree that Nazi Germany took inspiration from the United States, but this still seems profoundly worse than McCarthyism. There are certainly similarities, but that was only a fraction of what is happening today.

I realize we're extremely close, which is what I think makes it even more frustrating. These frustrations are constant in organizing work. It's much easier to discount arguments that I completely disagree with.
September 18, 2025 at 6:50 PM
Yup. I think we're all prone to inadvertently adopting fascism talking points. I'm sure that I have. We're surrounded and bombarded with them everyday. These things are complex and it's easy to misstep. It's important we call each other in not out, which I don't believe the OP was doing.

I'm sorry you and your family went through this.

Mocking people, telling them to read a book, "touch grass," etc is not a good organizing strategy. People are in shock. Communities are terrified. We should be meeting folks where they are at. Yes fascism can be defeated, but telling people Third Reich didn't last long is beyond odd
September 18, 2025 at 6:26 PM
And they're also setting up a strawman argument. Who are these mythical defeatists telling us to give up and just accept living under a dictatorship? At most the folks being labeled "defeatists" are recognizing the reality we are in and telling us to envision what's next? What do rebuild?
September 18, 2025 at 6:16 PM
This is wild. I mean, you were probably only there protesting in response to them "going after" other people first, right?
September 18, 2025 at 5:38 PM
That the people agreeing with this are privileged and won’t be killed or harmed so waiting a bit isn’t that big of a deal to them.
September 18, 2025 at 5:18 PM
Agreed. It wreaks of privilege. I’m not sure why anyone would think mocking people in shock is a good organizing tactic.
September 18, 2025 at 5:17 PM
How is this comforting to the millions killed by those regimes?
September 18, 2025 at 5:10 PM
This is beyond alarming given they just murdered people on a boat after claiming they were terrorists.

I still think the data could be hugely beneficial for organizers, it’s just not worth the risk it creates. It’s not just the list size, but it is helpful to know who attended (or at least had interest in attending) organizing events and actions.
September 17, 2025 at 8:54 PM
Exactly. And I have zero trust these “progressive” platforms used for organizing wouldn’t just hand it over without a fight. They are part of the nonprofit-industrial complex and will always prioritize profit and government relationships over safety.

I think everyone is there.
