One weakness of Micro:bits I keep encountering is in the power packs. Just the weight of the batteries in normal use can pull the wires out of either end, interrupting my students' work. I am using hot glue to try to solve the problem. Do you have a good solution?

I baked this weekend without a recipe, instead using the recipe in my head and aiming for a specific hydration target, and it worked out nicely. So I wrote out what I did. jamespburke.com/blog/sourdou...

Snow in the forecast. New England fish chowder on the menu.

These were cooked in a small air fryer set to 300 degrees for four minutes, although a friend told me it didn't work the same way for her, so YMMV. But these were exactly how I like them in ramen.

A while back I was trying to figure out what was a good setting to consistently cook jammy eggs in an instant pot. I settled on 7 or 6 minutes (pictures below) under LOW pressure. This is how I like eggs as a high protein snack.

It was the doorbell - an old, loud, electric bell that had been installed at some point. Perhaps to aid in hearing that someone was visiting. I went to the door to see who was there. I've never replaced it. We like some of the old features of our house. 5/9

This morning, as I began boiling water and hearing the oven to bake a batch of bagels that were resting in the fridge, there was a startling, but not completely unusual sound in the front hallway. #breadsky 4/9

Sourdough bread with compound butter: rosemary, sage, and maple syrup. It really rounded out this oven roasted beef dinner. #breadsky

We got there. Tonkotsu ramen with chashu and some gyoza on the side.
January 1, 2025 at 12:01 AM
First try for my daughter and me making gyoza.

The tonkotsu paitan stayed emulsified overnight in the fridge! Ready to be turned into bowls of ramen soon.

Would you just look at this silky tonkotsu paitan? I'm not claiming to be any sort of ramen expert, but I can't wait to get this on some homemade noodles, tare, aroma oil, and throw on some toppings.

1/2 I know my bagels aren't the prettiest, but one is a triangle, and that's something, right? #breadsky

When Massachusetts voters approved Q2, they lifted the standardized test (MCAS) requirement for graduation. DESE has advised that this will be considered retroactive. Therefore, students denied graduation in the past will be considered graduated if they've fulfilled other relevant requirements.

Week #8 of weekly bagels. I think I'm under-kneading (should be smooth and shiny), but these have a wonderfully crisp crust and are soft and airy. They cold retarded in the fridge for 24 hours, and the cold, dry air contributed to a nice crust. Also: delicious.

This diagram shows a valuable thing I learned: how to wire the power and control separately instead of every string being chained. Shorter wires for the glove. Image is from this excellent resource on Adafruit. learn.adafruit.com/florabrella/...

Here's a "Power Glove" that I made in to learn what I needed to teach my students. Id did things like create an explosion of light when it was fist-bumped. I intended as an example for future classes with similar collaborations before circumstances made that difficult.
