Writer for Electrek.co. EV driver since 2009. Tired of social media misinformation & hoping its better here (but tbh never liked twitter anyway so I probly won't spend much time here but we'll see)
I'm so tired of reading these false headlines for 2 years now. 2 new lies from Nikkei Asia this week (re: Toyota/Subaru pausing EV plans due to "slowing demand," when demand is in fact still rising) broke the camel's back, so I rewrote this article, once again, in the hope they'll all stop lying.
EV sales *still* have not fallen, cooled, slowed or slumped. Media is lying to you.
After two years of headlines begging for failure, EV sales keep defying false media narratives that they are dropping, and continue to rise.

During the Tesla shareholder meeting, a questioner said all the people in the room are "Tesla soldiers... I mean Elon Musk soldiers," then asked about how it is to run Tesla as a public company. In response, Musk called shareholders "parasites." They cheered.

I don't think "no CEO on earth that would accept this package" is the ringing endorsement you think it is, Kimbal.

(yes, this is the actual screenshot quality from Tesla's SEC filing. No, I'm not going to twitter to take a better one)

Elon Musk says Optimus will 'be an incredible surgeon' and 'imagine if everyone has access to an incredible surgeon'

Feel like having a nazi tell you that everyone will have a robot that can cut you open in their house isnt quite the utopia Elon thinks it is.

The deeper you look into Musk's proposed $1 trillion stock award, the more ridiculous it gets
The way Tesla is marketing Elon Musk's $1 trillion stock award is straight up crazy
Tesla is engaging in an all-out assault, exploiting employees and attacking shareholders to encourage retaining a bad CEO and giving him $1T.

After I wrote this, Tesla, which does not have a PR department and does not pay for advertising, retained a "stakeholder strategy firm" who emailed me to "set the record straight" and attack shareholders concerned about having their shares diluted for a bad CEO and captured board. Weird stuff.
Pension funds call to vote down Musk's $1T pay package, replace Tesla board
A group representing several large pension funds sent a letter with concerns about Tesla's board, opposing its proposals.

Tesla, a company that doesn't buy ads, is paying for ads to shill a $1T award for its bad CEO. Some ads attach his award to Tesla employees' ability to own a home, or host a quinceañera for their daughter. The last seems particularly exploitative, given Musk's constant white supremacist statements.

@hurwitz.bsky.social A correction for your recent ebike article. EV brakes do not "produce more microplastic," because EVs barely use their brakes. In fact, EVs produce far less total tire and brake dust than gas cars do (slightly more tire, much less brake - and brake is more dangerous than tire)
Another way electric cars clean the air: study says brake dust reduced by 83%
Exhaust isn't the only impact of cars, they also emit tiny brake particles. Thru regen braking, EVs reduce that (but bikes are even better!)

I find this story developing north of the border fascinating, wherein right-wing Canadian provinces are begging for cheap Chinese EVs because of a dispute over... cooking oil.
Canada may get cheap Chinese EVs because of cooking oil - here's why
Canada's right-wing is demanding an end to tariffs on cheap Chinese EVs, and may get it. And it's all because of whats in your cooking oil.

Fun fact: Despite America being the reason for Int'l Labor Day (May1) existing, which commemorates the Haymarket Massacre where Chicago police shot on labor demonstrators, US Labor Day is in Sept because US is so scared of socialism that it invented a fake holiday on May1 instead ("Loyalty Day")

@katieglass.bsky.social Hello! I see your article about veganism which notes uncritically the dairy-industry misinformation that almond milk is exceptionally bad for the environment

In fact, you should target dairy milk! It is worse in all ways, including water use, than almond milk is. Data here!
Dairy vs. plant-based milk: what are the environmental impacts?
A growing number of people are interested in switching to plant-based alternatives to dairy. But are they better for the environment, and which is best?

Happy with the response to this article. Go leave a comment to the EPA if you think the plan to delete science in order to raise your fuel/health costs to pad oil industry profits is a bad one.

(also hilarious to see people say I'm wrong here - the 76c/gal number comes from *your* guy, republicans)
EPA opens public comments on plan to hike gas prices by 76c/gal, kill thousands
The EPA rollback will cost $1 trillion total and kill thousands per year, but is being sought due to oil industry bribes. You can comment now.

Some readers have taken issue with my characterization of ICE's "papers, please" actions in LA as "nazi-like." I mentioned them to explain why the Tesla Diner, owned by a white supremacist, might not be popular in the city where ICE's illegal actions are happening. What do you think, Bluesky?

Chief Saboteur of the EPA, Lee Zeldin, just announced his intent to raise fuel prices by $.76/gal, to benefit the oil industry who gave him hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes to get him into his current position.
Energy Dept's own numbers say today's rollback would raise fuel costs by 76c/gal
EPA head Lee Zeldin said today's rollback will save you money, but even Trump's Energy Department knows that's a lie.

republicans signed the death warrant for the US auto industry this week, with the passage of a bill that kills 2 million US EV jobs.

They won't kill EVs as a whole, which will continue to grow, but they will harm this country's manufacturing base, and benefit China.

I'm not a self-driving luddite, I actually quite like autonomous vehicle tech. And there are positives to be taken from Tesla's launch.

But the growing library of errors in just a few days is troubling - especially with the cars operating in a regulatory vacuum.
Whoopsie! Uh oh! Oh my! Here's all the goofs and gaffes by Tesla Robotaxi so far
Tesla's Robotaxi launched in Austin, TX this weekend. With most interactions being filmed or streamed, there's a library of errors already.

Republicans are trying to kill EVs, and they're not going to succeed. However, what they will do is harm US industry, and surrender the lead we could have had to China - where there is no similar effort to strangle its domestic auto industry.
