As a teenager, my secondary school, The Norfolk Academy, employed a demerit system for light discipline, and "out of pocket" was what teachers would write as the rules infringement on their demerit pads when they couldn't think of a better reason. ;-)

So it seems I got a year's worth. Hooboy. :-(

Safest thing might be to install a phone line inside the safe in case of just such an emergency.

It's a rumor, not a fact, that a phone was installed in Mary Baker Eddy's crypt so she could call the security office to be rescued when the rapture comes, but that doesn't mean it's not a good idea.

It depends. Some safes have an internal access door to get at the bolt mechanism.

Since this means one can also get to the lock mechanism, it's discouraged and likely not available. At least without tools like a screwdriver or wrench to remove a cover.
