Passionate about making tech more responsible, notably via my v own https://bettertech.blog. And sharing memes ofc
Just before he died, Charlie Kirk blamed black people for the scourge of mass shooters. "And then a bullet fired by a white man [classic mass shooter profile] tore through his neck." One of @privateeyenews.bsky.social’s best articles ever. Vs some stiff competition. All America’s crisis is here 🤯

Telling people on LinkedIn how to stop LinkedIn training its (Microsoft’s) AIs on your post content is my most viral post on LinkedIn ever. Conclusions:
- People don’t like having AI forced on them
- Trolling is very effective on social media 😜

This French economist, @gabrielzucman.bsky.social, is suggesting we tax the ultra-rich (those 1800 households with over €100m in revenues) 2% on those revenues, to generate c. €20bn for the state. Why? France’s 500 biggest fortunes = 42% of its GDP today, vs 6.4% in 1996. Sounds simple, no?

"Chilling read" = understatement. The court filing for 16 year-old Adam Raine’s ChatGPT-enabled suicide is not only gut-wrenching in its conversation extracts, but also in its arguments that this was caused by deliberate OpenAI malpractice, to maximise engagement

A majority of Californians - the state where most big tech lives - want AI regulated, and 70% think it benefits the rich vs middle or lower classes. Alas, its environmental impact is seen as a low priority problem 🤔 via @bcmerchant.bsky.social techequity.us/2025/08/19/h...

Young people’s conscientiousness is in freefall whilst their neuroticism spirals, according to US academic data. Ofc I can’t read the whole article (FT paywall) but it confirms what all parents today will find obvious…

Shocking. The @ec.europa.eu / EU agreed to buy $750bn in (what will be predominantly fossil) US fuels AND give them $600bn more, and it’s called a victory because "only" a 15% tariff?!? It will increase our emissions and debt. Trump’s gangster strong arming tactics are working a treat flip.it/mv7LfW

Paris just went from 35 degree heatwave to a tropical storm that destroyed hundreds of trees. In just a few hours. Climate change: this is fine 😨

Paris always surprises. Whilst jogging through the sick amounts of trash left by the Seine by revellers at the previous night’s Fete de la Musique, I found "Paris Offline", a mini-festival where you’re encouraged to come and literally disconnect (from your phones). Great idea, wish it’d been busier

Encountered some tourists doing a VR tour in Paris today. Seriously?! You visit the world’s most beautiful (and visited) city and pay to stick that shit on your head to look at graphics this awful, instead of the real thing? When you could’ve just stayed at home & done it?!!! (source: Viality Tours)

ICYMI in their report* (I did): Generating an 8 second video with AI can consume as much electricity as charging a laptop TWICE, as IEA’s Siddarth Singh reminded us at #VivaTech just now, with @sashamtl.bsky.social & Amini’s Kate Kallot 🤯

A writer gave 5 texts, via substack links, to ChatGPT. It gave detailed feedback on each one. Then admitted it hadn’t actually read them. Apologised. Then carried on lying again. "Making shit up" (c. S. Altman) is in its DNA. And yet y’all keep using it amandaguinzburg.substack.com/p/diabolus-e...

Yes, "green prompting" is a thing! Re. this white paper, and confirmed by other experts, 2x shorter LLM results - e.g. by adding "be concise" to your prompts - will use 2x less energy (because it can half the no of tokens generated). Nice! arxiv.org/abs/2503.10666 cc @dataforgoodfr.bsky.social

The Last of Us S2E2: what a shocker. For those who gave up on the game from the get go ofc. & what incredible horde action sequences 🫨 Nice touch getting Mark Mylod in for those, it was almost as gripping as GoT’s best battles ⚔️

👏🏻 @humanetech.bsky.social’s Tristan Harris’ standing ovation when asking TED attendees to show restraint with AI development. If only the super-powerful present in that room could now honour that promise. AI’s "ever bigger" race is one of humanity’s gravest ever risks

Probably why it’s currently reassuring WhatsApp users that it never looks at their messages. Only their AIs do (right?) 😰

Rant on: is it too much to ask for artists to play live music at concerts? For the third time I’d seen him last night, genius producer Jamie xx played a DJ set that was advertised as a live set (i.e. no "DJ set" written after his name). Yes, nice lights and all. But €60 to see him play his records?!

"Sam Altman said AI could solve the climate problem. Man, you have billions, just solve it with that directly!" @dataforgoodfr.bsky.social’s Theo Alves Da Costa spot on as ever when answering the recurring question of whether AI can be a net positive for the planet cc @sashamtl.bsky.social

Just finished - in 1 weekend - Careless People, by Facebook whistleblower Sarah Wynne Williams. Unexpectedy, the most shocking parts are when she’s attached by a shark at age 13; & this👇🏻 tale of a Meta manager being too busy to handle a colleague’s epileptic fit. The rest: sadly unsurprisingly evil
